Advice and Guidance

What’s this for?

An Advice and Guidance service is commissioned by the ICS. It allows optometrists to ask for advice from a consultant, without needing to make a referral to a service.

Advice and Guidance services are often much quicker to return feedback to optometrists, and is a good way of asking for advice, before making a referral.

An advice and guidance service does not replace the need to make a referral. You should use this service to determine if you need to make a referral or not.

How to make an advice and guidance request

  • Log in to EyeV
  • From the Home Screen, click on the blue Request Advice and Guidance button.
  • You’ll then be taken to a workflow which shows any existing requests for advice and guidance.
  • To make a new request for advice and guidance, click the New A&G Request button.
  • Enter the topic, message, and upload any relevant images, then click submit.
  • The advice and guidance request will be submitted automatically to secondary care. You’ll receive a notification in EyeV and by email when you receive a response.

What happens when an advice and guidance request is made

  • Log in to EyeV
  • From the Home Screen, hover over Secondary Care and then click Advice and Guidance.
  • You’ll then be taken to a workflow which shows any existing requests for advice and guidance.
  • To view a request for advice and guidance, click the View link next to the corresponding request.
  • In the message field, you can respond to a message.
  • If the A&G request needs converting into a referral, hover over the A&G Actions field, and select Resolved – Referral Required.

What happens if I don’t receive a response?

If you don’t receive a response to an advice and guidance request after 24 hours. You will receive a message saying that the advice and guidance request has been converted to a referral, and you will be directed to make a referral to secondary care.
